Fourth-year students of the Department of Forest Engineering made a field trip to the Antalya/Aksu-Karaöz fire site on 13.10.2026 as part of the Forest Protection course, accompanied by Prof. Dr. Mustafa AVCI and Res. Asst. Tuncay KARAN. Mr. Fatih ÜNAL, Asar Forest Enterprise Chief from the Antalya Forest Enterprise Directorate, took part in the trip.

The trip began at the fire’s point of origin. In this area, the details of the post-fire on-site investigation aimed at determining the cause of the fire were explained to the students. The group then moved to the fire crew building, where the fire was reviewed through the students’ questions.

As the trip continued, the progression of the fire was explained at the fire site and the students’ questions were answered. The effectiveness of YARDOP facilities in stopping fires, and the conditions under which a fire can overcome these facilities, were discussed with the students. In addition, the counter-fire (backburn) operation carried out at this facility during the fire was explained to the students on site.

We thank Mr. Fatih ÜNAL, Asar Forest Enterprise Chief, for the valuable information and experience he shared, and all the staff of the Antalya Forest Enterprise Directorate, particularly Antalya Forest Enterprise Director Mr. Emin DEMİR, for contributing to the realization of the trip.

We continue to learn forestry in the field, on site, and through hands-on practice.
