The Department of Forest Engineering,
launched its bachelor’s degree program in 1995, offers a comprehensive
education that reflects the full breadth of the forestry profession. Through
coursework, research and practical training, students gain expertise across all
major fields of modern forest science.
These include forest botany, where
they learn the classification and ecological roles of forest plants; forest
economics, which examines the financial and socio-economic dimensions of
forest resources; and forest entomology and protection, focusing on
pests, pathogens and abiotic factors. Core areas also include forest
management, where students study sustainable planning and decision-making; forest
transport, geodesy and photogrammetry, which provide essential technical
skills for mapping, measurement and timber logistics; and silviculture,
covering the principles of forest establishment, growth and stand improvement.
In addition, the programme integrates soil science and ecology, helping
students understand the foundations of healthy forest ecosystems, as well as watershed
management, which addresses the protection and sustainable use of vital
water and soil resources.
Each student is required to complete four
years of bachelor education with 240 ECTS credits. They are also required to
carry out an undergraduate research project and complete vocational training
for one semester. After a successful completion of these requirements, students
earn a B.Sc. degree and the title of Forest Engineer.
Career opportunities for graduates are
broad, spanning both the public and private sectors, with positions in areas
related to forestry, natural resource management, conservation and
environmental planning.
