In honor of May 22, World Biodiversity Day, a special program titled "The Ancient Triangle of Life: Forest-Water-Soil" was held. The event was organized through the joint collaboration of the Faculty of Fisheries, the Faculty of Agriculture, and the Faculty of Forestry.
The program commenced with an opening speech by Prof. Dr. Şengül Bilgin, Dean of the Eğirdir Faculty of Fisheries, who shared insights on the significance of the day. Following her, Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Çatal, Rector of Isparta University of Applied Sciences, took the podium. He noted that there are more than 8 million species awaiting discovery worldwide. He emphasized that the university will continue to take necessary steps toward increasing and conserving biodiversity.
During the scientific sessions, the fundamental components of life were analyzed in depth by subject matter experts:
- Prof. Dr. Ufuk Çelikkol Akçay (Faculty of Agriculture): Presented "Is Biodiversity Possible in Agriculture?", evaluating the potential for biological diversity within agricultural landscapes.
- Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Küçük (Eğirdir Faculty of Fisheries): Discussed "The Current Status of Turkey's Freshwater Fish Fauna: Threats and Conservation Approaches", sharing critical data regarding lost species and habitats.
- Prof. Dr. Yasin Karatepe (Faculty of Forestry): Concluded with "An Evaluation of the Lakes Region Forests in Terms of Biodiversity", highlighting the vital importance of the region's forest assets.
The event concluded with a group photograph and a powerful reminder: Nature does not belong to humans; humans belong to nature. The program successfully underscored the indispensable role of every living organism within the chain of life.
