A field application trip was conducted for the 2nd-year students of the Department of Forest Engineering at our Faculty as part of the Forest Ecology course at Gölcük Nature Park. The trip was carried out with the participation of faculty members from the Department of Soil Science and Ecology, Prof. Dr. Serkan GÜLSOY and Res. Asst. Nazlı ÖĞÜT, alongside the Head of the Department of Wildlife Ecology and Management, Prof. Dr. Ahmet MERT.
During the field study, students had the opportunity to conduct on-site examinations of scientific observation and measurement techniques related to the structure and functioning of forest ecosystems. As part of the applied training, essential forestry tools such as hypsometers (tree height meters), calipers, increment borers, and soil measurement equipment were introduced. The technical specifications, measurement precision, and data collection methods for each piece of equipment were explained in detail.
The importance of the gathered data in ecosystem analysis and evaluation was demonstrated through practical exercises. This field application significantly contributed to students' ability to consolidate theoretical knowledge through field experience, master measurement techniques, and evaluate ecosystem components through a holistic approach.
We would like to extend our gratitude to the Isparta Provincial Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks for their support in organizing this meaningful event.
