1. Which departments are available in your faculty?

Our faculty currently has two departments that actively admit students: Forest Engineering and Forest Industrial Engineering. The Department of Wildlife Ecology and Management has not yet started education and training, but continues its research activities.

2. What is the language of instruction?

The language of instruction in our faculty is Turkish.

3. Is there applied education in the faculty?

Yes. In addition to theoretical courses, our faculty offers laboratory practices, field studies, technical trips, and workplace professional education practices.

4. Do students participate in field studies?

Yes. Applied field and site training is carried out intensively.

5. Are Erasmus or exchange programs available at the faculty?

Yes. Students can benefit from Erasmus+, Farabi, and similar exchange programs.

6. Are double major and minor opportunities available?

Students who meet the required conditions may apply for double major and minor programs within the scope of the university’s relevant regulations.

7. Are scholarship opportunities available at the faculty?

Students can benefit from KYK scholarships and loans, as well as scholarship opportunities offered by various institutions and organizations.

8. Are social events organized at the faculty?

Yes. Our faculty organizes technical trips, career events, seminars, student club activities, and social events.

9. With which score type does the Department of Forest Engineering admit students?

The Department of Forest Engineering admits students with the SAY score type.

10. In which fields can graduates of the Department of Forest Engineering work?

Graduates can work at the General Directorate of Forestry, the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, private forestry offices, consulting firms, forestry projects, and in academic fields.

11. Are field practices carried out in the department?

Yes. Field studies are carried out within the department for surveying, mapping, planning, and forestry practices.

12. Which technologies are used in the department?

Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing technologies, mapping systems, and various engineering software are used.

13. Can graduates work in public institutions?

Yes. Graduates can work as engineers in public institutions if they meet the required conditions.

14. Does the Department of Forest Engineering consist only of field work?

No. The department covers forestry planning, biodiversity, wildlife, forest protection, forestry economics, and various engineering practices.

15. What is Forest Industrial Engineering?

It is an engineering field concerned with the processing, development, production, and quality control of forest products.

16. In which sectors can department graduates work?

Graduates can work in the furniture industry, forest products industry, timber construction sector, panel production facilities, quality control laboratories, and R&D centers.

17. Are laboratory practices available in the department?

Yes. Laboratory practices are carried out in material technology, production techniques, and quality control within the department.

18. Do department graduates have opportunities to work in the private sector?

Yes. Graduates are employed especially in the furniture and forest products sectors.

19. Is training on production technologies provided in the department?

Yes. Training is provided in wood material technology, production systems, surface treatments, and computer-aided production.

21. Who can attend WPE?

All students who enrolled in our faculty in the 2019-2020 academic year and later are required to complete WPE in order to graduate.

22. What is WPE?

After students complete seven semesters of theoretical and applied courses in our faculty, WPE is an education model that provides them with professional workplace experience for one semester before graduation.

23. When will I attend WPE?

Forest Engineering students may attend WPE in the 7th or 8th semester, while Forest Industrial Engineering students may attend only in the 8th semester.

24. What are the requirements for attending WPE?

The student must meet the following conditions:

  • a. As of the semester in which the student will attend WPE, the student must not have any courses from previous semesters that were not taken or failed due to absenteeism.
  • b. The student’s cumulative grade point average (CGPA) must be 1.80 or above.

25. I currently do not meet the WPE requirements. What should I do?

Students who cannot attend WPE because they do not meet the requirements above will be sent in the first semester in which workplace professional education is offered after they meet the prerequisite.

26. When and how will I apply for WPE?

WPE applications are submitted at the end of the 6th semester for Forest Engineering students and at the end of the 7th semester for Forest Industrial Engineering students. Applications will be made through OBS on the dates specified in the relevant work schedule.

27. Is there anything else I need to do after applying for WPE?

Students who meet the application requirements will be placed in workplaces. Students who are placed must sign a WPE contract with the relevant workplace before the semester begins.

28. What are the start and end dates of WPE?

WPE starts on the first day of the regular academic calendar and ends on the last day.

29. What other documents do I need to fill out during WPE?

  • a. Daily and Weekly Report
  • b. Attendance chart
  • c. Leave form (in case of a valid excuse)
  • d. Workplace change form (if a workplace change is mandatory)

After the weekly report is signed by the student and the “training personnel,” it must be uploaded to OBS together with the daily reports by 23:59 on Tuesday of the following week at the latest.

30. Are there documents I need to fill out or submit at the end of WPE?

At the end of WPE, the “Applied Education File,” which includes the documents listed above, must be submitted as a single document.

31. How can I obtain WPE-related documents?

You can obtain them from the Forms section by using the “Workplace Professional Education (7+1)” button on the side panel of our website.

32. How and when should I fill out the Daily/Weekly Report?

The daily report includes a detailed description of the activities carried out each day during WPE. Images, figures, tables, and similar explanatory information may be added to the daily report when needed. The weekly report includes only the topic headings of the activities carried out during the week.

33. What are the duties and responsibilities of a student completing WPE?

  • a. Students completing workplace professional education are subject, including during leave or absence periods, to the relevant legislation of the higher education institution of which they are students and to the official working rules of the workplace. Students who act contrary to these procedures and principles, the provisions of the regulation accepted as the basis, or the official working rules of the workplace are considered unsuccessful in workplace professional education.
  • b. A student who is unsuccessful for any reason repeats workplace professional education at the same or a different workplace.
  • c. After starting workplace professional education, the student may change the workplace with the approval of the commission. If the workplace change is mandatory and more than half of the semester has been completed, the student may also complete workplace professional education at the faculty.
  • d. Students may not participate in strikes, demonstrations, marches, slowdowns, or similar actions, and may not take part in union activities at the workplace.
  • e. Students are responsible for using the workplace’s materials, tools, and all devices and machines carefully.
  • f. Students may not remove any workplace documents, information, tools, or equipment from the workplace, nor use them in any document they prepare, without the workplace’s permission and knowledge.
  • g. During Workplace Professional Education, the student prepares all relevant documents and reports completely according to the conditions and schedule determined by the commission and uploads them to the student information system.
  • h. Students may never share workplace-related information and documents that constitute trade secrets with the media, on the internet, or with third parties.
  • i. Students completing Workplace Professional Education are subject, during their time at the workplace, to the Higher Education Institutions Student Disciplinary Regulation published in the Official Gazette dated 18/8/2012 and numbered 28388, to the relevant disciplinary legislation of their higher education institution, and to the workplace’s working rules.

34. What should I do if I encounter a problem at the workplace?

All excuses, problems, and requests must be reported to the Training Personnel and the Responsible Faculty Member.

35. Do I have the right to be absent during WPE?

It is essential that the student continuously attends their duties at the workplace like regular employees throughout WPE. Leave cannot be taken except in cases such as illness, exams, the death of a first-degree relative, or similar emergencies. In mandatory situations requiring leave, the student must obtain approval from the Training Personnel by having the leave form signed.

36. What should I do if my Covid-19 test is positive during WPE or if I have been in contact with someone who tested positive? What should I write in the daily report in this case?

If you encounter such a situation, you should first apply to the necessary health institutions and inform both the training personnel and the responsible faculty member about the situation.

37. What happens if I have a disagreement with the workplace where I am completing WPE? Can I change my workplace?

If you have a problem with the workplace, you can contact the Responsible Faculty Member. Workplace changes are not possible except in mandatory cases.

38. How will my success in the WPE course be determined? Will I take midterm and final exams?

There will be no midterm or final exam within the scope of the WPE course. However, the activities you carry out during the semester will be evaluated by both the “training personnel” at the workplace and the “responsible faculty member” in your department. In addition, the “Applied Education File” you submit to the department at the end of the semester will be evaluated by the commission through an interview. The course success grade will consist of the training personnel score (30%), responsible faculty member score (35%), and Applied Education File interview score (35%).

39. Can I take courses at the faculty during the WPE semester?

During this semester, students may take the courses included in the curriculum as well as courses they previously attended but failed. Only exam retakes are held for these courses. A leave form must be filled out at the workplace for exam days.

40. Can graduates work in public institutions?

Yes. Graduates can work in relevant public institutions and as engineers if they meet the required conditions.

41. Can graduates work in the private sector?

Yes. Graduates can work in consulting firms, forestry offices, production enterprises, the furniture sector, and the forest products industry.

42. Can graduates pursue an academic career?

Yes. Graduates can pursue an academic career by continuing to graduate education programs.

43. In which areas can graduates specialize after graduation?

Students can specialize in areas such as forestry planning, remote sensing, GIS, wood technology, furniture production, biomaterials, and wildlife.

44. Are there student clubs at the faculty?

Yes. Students can actively take part in student clubs within the university.

45. Can students take part in research projects?

Yes. Students can take part in scientific research projects together with faculty members.

46. Are laboratory and computer facilities available at the faculty?

Yes. Our faculty has laboratories and computer infrastructure for education and research purposes.

47. Are technical trips organized?

Yes. Technical trips are organized within courses for public institutions, private sector enterprises, and field practices.
